John Griffin III and More Stars Attend Fantastic Gala for 2013 Kentucky Derby

The start weapon will not sound at the 139th Kentucky Derby until later Saturday night, nevertheless the weekend's festivities already are well underway after Friday's Grand Gala festivities. Placed at the Marriott-Louisville East, the Grand Gala is a kickoff to the Kentucky Derby's celebrated party scene. A gathering of celebrities from all walks of life, the world ahead of the bash feels like a nationally televised awards show as opposed to the beginning bash for a horse-racing event. None the less, everything feels perfectly intertwined with the Kentucky Derby activities. All the women and men in work are completely dressed up in their Sunday's most readily useful, with "who are you wearing" getting the issue of the night. Arguably probably the most anticipated face in attendancea'at least on the planet of sportsa'was Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III. The NFL Rookie of the Year, who is coping with tears to his ACL and LCL, made one of his first public appearances on Friday night since suffering the damage. The expectation for his attendance just grew larger following a fascinating chain of tweets sent outAthis week. Though it's unclear to what Griffin was referencinga'though it is been suspected he was likely discussing the push by Washington D.C. Officers to improve the "Redskins" nicknamea'the star quarterback seemed unhappy with this culture's emphasis on political correctness: The inciting confusion and questions about Griffin's causes didn't stop him from attending the Grand Gala. But, as Leslie Neeley of KSTV Sports described, the Redskins signal-caller wouldn't answer questions on the red carpet: On the less controversial side of things, the Grand Gala also served as a semi-reunion for NBA figures. Present TNT analyst and former NBA MVP Shaquille O'Neal got a night removed from the playoff grind to also headline the big event. He was seen hobnobbing it with other NBA retirees through the night, as may be seen in this image of O'Neal, Ron Harper and Scottie Pippen that Pippen submitted on his Twitter feed: Pippen was among the most socially productive on Friday nighta'at minimum if his Twitter and Instagram feeds were any indication. Again with Harper, Pippen also took time for you to have a snapshot with former Seattle Mariners and Cincinnati Reds outfielder Ken Griffey Jr.: In case anybody fell ill, there clearly was also a health care provider in the building Friday nighta'Dr. J, Julius Erving. The founder of the jaw-dropping throw, Erving is among probably the most regularly cultural people among NBA retirees and attended with his wife. Not in the sports world, celebs in attendance included Star Jones and Jennifer Hudson, the latter giving the evening's entertainment.
