The way in which good are the Seattle Mariners? In some recoverable format, they are strictly unhealthy. In reality, they may be better than people imagine.
Seattle is 16-19 as we get near to the midpoint of May. Certainly not a stellar record, but a quick winning streak would set this team above. 500 to your season. Then, who has learned?
As of May 9, the Mariners were only 5. 5 games behind the Texas Rangers in the American League West. This division has already been shown to be one of ups together with downs. Just ask the Houston Angels.
Despite the lowest run production in the American League West (second-worst within AL), Seattle has won seven of the last 10 games, and yes it went 3-2 on one more road trip. These usually are positive signs.
Obviously, fans has to be realistic. This team could easily be mediocre all season, win 75 games or even less, and continue your string of disappointing the seasons.
When you look for how this team has performed, there are some things to feel good about. This 26th-ranked. 235 team normal isn't great, but the Mariners are more productive on the offense. Kyle Seager is creating a great year, Kendrys Morales is warmup and Michael Morse comes with provided some much-needed electrical power.
Even Justin Smoak and additionally Dustin Ackley are beginning to hit better after commencing very cold before you start of the year. Felix Hernandez and Hisashi Iwakuma are stellar, and Tom Wilhelmsen has become virtually unhittable out of your bullpen.
Obviously there had been some problems. Despite her great defensive ability, Brendan Ryan has been dreadful at the plate, and Robert Andino hasn't been improved.
The Joe Saunders experiment has brought mixed results. Brandon Maurer has looked great from time to time and like a novice at others. Then there exists (was) Blake Beavan together with Aaron Harang. Let's just say that back end of the rotation is often a work in progress.
There are actually real possibilities for that team. Maybe one of a great deal hyped young pitchers prefer Taijuan Walker or Danny Hultzen tend to make their way to Seattle and give stability in the rotation. Perhaps the hot-hitting Computer chip Franklin (via The Seattle Times) might get a call-up and produce some real offensive production with the shortstop position.
There exists much to like about this team, but there are a lot of reasons to be cautious along with the optimism. More stars may get hurt. Offensive production might plateau. There may be no help coming from the minors anytime soon.
In the trade deadline, will the Mariners become close enough that management would give thought to going out and gaining another piece? It is some time since the Mariners were during that position.
Obviously, it 's still very early by hockey standards. However, this is the season when teams start to obtain a particular groove. This is the point in the season certainly where an team like the Mariners can either beginning believe, or fall back up in a familiar routine.
