Will Arsenal fans do a Poznan? Supporters could turn their back on United's ... - Daily Mail

A social media campaign to get Arsenal supporters to 'do a Poznan' and turn their backs on Manchester United's title-winners during a guard of honour this weekend was gathering pace on Thursday night.

With Sir Alex Ferguson's United clinching the club's 20th league title earlier this week, they will go to the Emirates as champions, despite still having four league games to play.

Arsenal will give United a special guard of honour at the Emirates on Sunday, but it could be accompanied by the club's fans turning their back.

With the word Poznan trending on Twitter, fans discussed the possibility of turning their backs on United as they make their entrance.

The celebration was made famous by supporters of the Polish club Lech Poznan, and adopted by Manchester City supporters in this country. Fans of other clubs have also celebrated in the same way, with United fans mocking their City counterparts during their FA Cup win at the Etihad last year.

It is already expected that if Robin van Persie plays for United, he will get a rough ride from home fans, after joining the Reds from Arsenal last summer.

Earlier this week, Arsenal Independent Supporters' Association chair Lois Langton told Sportsmail: 'We have to give the guard of honour, as I don't want us to look as though we are being petty.

The guard of honour isn't given to the champions every season, but Arsenal have surely been mindful that Ferguson's United gave them one after the Gunners had clinched a 10th title in 1991.

United's players also applauded Chelsea onto the pitch after the Blues had won their first league championship for 50 years in 2005, with the Londoners returning the favour in 2007.
