Will Arsenal fans do a Poznan? Supporters could turn their back on United's ... - Daily Mail

A social media campaign to get Arsenal supporters to 'do a Poznan' and turn their backs on Manchester United's title-winners during a guard of honour this weekend was gathering pace on Thursday night.

Arsenal will give United a special guard of honour at the Emirates on Sunday, but it could be accompanied by the club's fans turning their back.

With the word Poznan trending on Twitter, fans discussed the possibility of turning their backs on United as they make their entrance.

The celebration was made famous by supporters of the Polish club Lech Poznan, and adopted by Manchester City supporters in this country. Fans of other clubs have also celebrated in the same way, with United fans mocking their City counterparts during their FA Cup win at the Etihad last year.

It is already expected that if Robin van Persie plays for United, he will get a rough ride from home fans, after joining the Reds from Arsenal last summer.

Earlier this week, Arsenal Independent Supporters' Association chair Lois Langton told Sportsmail: 'We have to give the guard of honour, as I don't want us to look as though we are being petty.

The guard of honour isn't given to the champions every season, but Arsenal have surely been mindful that Ferguson's United gave them one after the Gunners had clinched a 10th title in 1991.

United's players also applauded Chelsea onto the pitch after the Blues had won their first league championship for 50 years in 2005, with the Londoners returning the favour in 2007.

Wigan Athletic versus. Tottenham Hotspur: Final rating 2-2 in draw that affects both... - SB Nation

Tottenham Hotspur restored a draw at the DW Stadium thanks to a late own goal by Emmerson Boyce, but the outcome helps where they wish to go neither side get. After having a heroic performance to overcome Manchester City at White Hart Lane, one might have expected Tottenham Hotspur to construct on the sweep and victory away Wigan Athletic. That didn't occur -- these were mainly outplayed by Roberto Martinez's men and nearly finished up losing however for a late own purpose by Emmerson Boyce. The 2-2 sketch actually hurts both parties, making the visitors in fifth position and the Latics still in the relegation zone. The match were only available in frenetic fashion. Within 5 minutes, the post had been hit by Spurs, with Tom Huddlestone looking to capture Joel Robles ignorant on a free end from an absurdly small position. The Wigan owner, apparently still asleep, was lucky to start to see the 25-yard effort ricochet off the straight, but his next error would not go unpunished. The operator was a comedy of errors. Maynor Figueroa had repeated chances to obvious, but he and Joel insisted on driving right back and forth between themselves despite major strain from Gareth Bale. In the course of time, the goalkeeper made a decision to get the ball away, casually shooting into Bale's foot and seeing dismayed as the bounce found its way into the most effective place. The hosts weren't behind for long, nevertheless. Soon after conceding, they marched up the pitch and seized an equaliser, winning a corner that Jan Vertonghen found herself totally embarrassed by Boyce, who rose high above the center straight back and operated a past Hugo Lloris. After 11 minutes, it had been 1-1, and Cliint Dempsey proposed that there might be more to come with a strong shot that flew just wide of the article. Another major incidents, however, were however a pair of accidents. Figueroa must be stretchered down using what appeared to be a crotch problem after difficult Jermain Defoe, and a casualty was also picked up by Tottenham when Moussa Dembele tweaked his hamstring and was taken for Lewis Holtby. It'd not be described as a Spurs match without a moment of breathtaking incompetence from Scott Parker, and that came late in the first half when the 2010-11 FWA Player of the Year found himself on the ball six yards from an empty net only to miscontrol and allow Joel get the ball. No one was especially surprised. Callum McManaman breaking the deadlock just after the system, however, was a little bit of a surprise, especially since the purpose itself was such a stunner. Despite the close interest of Kyle Naughton, the 22-year-old worked place to shoot at the edge of the box and exposed a complete rocket that flew over Lloris' head and nearly seared its way through the top of the net. 2-1 Wigan. They certainly were good value for his or her cause as well. Spurs couldn't seem to find a method through their stuffed support, and the hosts actually appeared reasonably dangerous moving forward. These were lucky, nevertheless, that Mike Dean decided to ignore Jordi Gomez's peculiar traveling end into Holtby's face, which may certainly have observed the midfielder delivered off had a foul been called. It didn't last, however. The visitors threw caution to the wind, hurling figures forward, and ultimately managed to draw amount via an own goal. Aaron Lennon was it was made by the man who, the exchange fizzing in a low cross in to a group of bodies. The ball bounced off Bale, then Boyce, and crept past Joel and in to the back of the internet to make certain a 2-2 sketch despite an outrageous goalmouth struggle that almost saw Defoe and Huddlestone force home. Real Madrid hand Barcelona this crown after draw along with Espanyol - The Guardian.

Serious Madrid gifted Barcelona a La Liga title whenever a second-string side could only draw 1-1 at Espanyol to leave Tito Vilanova's market leaders seven points clear, with their rivals having only several games left.

José Mourinho fielded some weakened team with an individual eye on next Friday's Copa del Rey final against Atlético This town, Real's last chance for major silverware this year, giving the occasion a sense of anti-climax.

Christian Stuani gave Espanyol the lead in the first half, and although Gonzalo Higuaín drawn one back for Real with the second half it were enough to stop Barça securing the league trophy.

Barcelona, whom visit third-placed Atlético Madrid on Sunday, have 88 ideas with four games eventually left to play. Real have 81 in second, experiencing played two more agrees with than their rivals.

"We ought to congratulate Barça. The league is a competition all about reliability, " Real's Xabi Alonso shared with Spanish broadcaster Canal And.

"We didn't start the growing season well and this suggested we couldn't compete at the end. Now we have to pay attention to the cup as this is the title we still will need to compete for. "

Regardless of the odd La Liga crown being at stake, Real started with names like Cristiano Ronaldo, Xabi Alonso and Karim Benzema over the bench, and mid-table Espanyol, who have little left to play for the season, sniffed the chance on an upset. The game took a turn for ones worse for Real when Raphaël Varane fell awkwardly for the reason that he made a tackle and went down clutching his right leg.

The promising young French defender must be substituted soon after, and in the 28th minute Stuani pounced on the loose ball in the region at a corner to help you fire the hosts in the front.

Espanyol were unlucky to have a second goal ruled out after, while Real offered little moving forward until Higuaín flicked a header within the far post from Luka Modric's free-kick ahead of the hour mark.

The equaliser came a few minutes after Real's top scorer Ronaldo had entered the fray as well as the visitors steadily increased the pressure in the Espanyol goal, although they rarely looked like finding the winner.

Espanyol had midfielder Víctor Sánchez sent off in the final analysis for a dangerous take on on Higuaín, giving Ronaldo one final chance to grab successful with a freekick, but his attempt was higher and wide summing upwards Real's poor night.

Stoke City: Matthew Etherington and Marc Wilson could be out for season - This is Staffordshire

STOKE duo Marc Wilson and Matthew Etherington could have played their last game of the season after being laid low by injury.

And striker Cameron Jerome is an early doubt for Saturday's clash against Norwich after injuring his ankle during last weekend's win at QPR.

Wilson limped off with a recurrence of hamstring trouble at QPR, while Etherington is still under treatment for the back problem which has sidelined him for Stoke's last two-and-a-half games.

"Both of them are having intensive treatment and it's a case of keeping everything crossed for them," said boss Tony Pulis.

And Etherington has been hit so hard by intermittent fitness concerns throughout the campaign that his longest run in the side was 10 games during November and December.

Indeed, the pair have only started three league games together on the left-hand side this season... a damning statistic that explains many of Stoke's problems.

They lined up together on the opening day of the season at Reading, then at Fulham in Wilson's comeback game in February, and again in the recent home defeat by Aston Villa.

But Etherington was subbed midway through the first half at Fulham and then forced to retire at half-time against Villa.

"Yes, they have been a miss, there's no denying that," Pulis admitted. "I think we have particularly missed Matty in our home games because of the pace he has to stretch teams.

"I still maintain that there's few, if any, better players of his type when he's fit and firing. That's why it's imperative we get him playing again."

Jerome, meanwhile, has been forced to have a cortisone injection in his ankle to ensure his season doesn't end prematurely with four fixtures still remaining.

The 26-year-old striker, who has started five of Stoke's last seven games, played his part in Saturday's 2-0 win at QPR after Pulis re-introduced his pace into the team to trouble the central defensive pairing of Clint Hill and Christopher Samba.

Norwich, whose win over Reading last weekend was only their second in 17 league games, could have England keeper John Ruddy in goal when they visit the Britannia on Saturday.

Ruddy, back in reserve-team action after five months out following thigh surgery, is pressuring Mark Bunn for his old first-team slot.

Power team USA Basketball: Why Tom Thibodeau Has to be Great Hire as a Assistant.

It is being reported by ESPN that Mike Krzyzewski has signed on to coach Team USA to your 2014 World Cup of Basketball as well as the 2016 Olympic Games.

The New York Post is credit reporting that Jim Boeheim was in as an assistant with regard to 2016, but Lakers coach Mike D'Antoni has gone out. That leaves at smallest one opening on Teacher K's squad.

Perhaps raising is that Thibs is often a pretty decent head teacher. He was named Coach with the Year in his initial season and was runner-up with his second. With a job winning percentage of 68 p . c, he recorded 100 gains all the perks even faster than previous Bulls coach Phil Jackson.

But a better rationale is that Thibs is often a career assistant. Prior to the Bulls job, Thibs had been an assistant in the NBA for 20 changing seasons, most under Doc Estuaries and rivers, Jeff Van Gundy along with John Lucas. He was Doc Rivers' associate coach when Celtics won their most current title, and also was with Van Gundy's Knicks for their 1999 Finals run.

Another reason Team NORTH AMERICAN needs Thibodeau is he is arguably the best coach of defense still within the game. Teams where Thibodeau was a head or assistant coach frequently have finished in the top echelons of points helped, field-goal percentage allowed, turnovers commanded and defensive rebounds.

Thibodeau has been to blame for the development of a number of the NBA's great defensive people, including David Robinson, Dennis Rodman, Kevin Garnett, Marcus Camby along with Joakim Noah.

Finally, it usually helps for any Team USA coach to have a little international experience, as well playing internationally, coaching around the globe or scouting international competitors.

While Thibs doesn't hold the international experience of your D'Antoni, or even from Gregg Popovich, it's worth noting that will his primary scorer (Luol Deng) plays internationally for Great britain, and his primary defensive player (Joakim Noah) plays worldwide for France. Two more of his players (Derrick Increased and Carlos Boozer) have got played internationally for Team USA.

That which we Learned About the Chicago Bulls from their 2nd-Round Playoff Series.

Should the Games 2-5 got off the Bulls, Miami's talent became the culprit. What makes Miami a superior team is the country's athleticism and shooting expertise.

LeBron James is your NBA's best player. Upon offense, he can dominate a sport with his innate driving and timely scoring. Defensively, there are actually few players who can play aggressively without committing fouls, as he can.

As great like LeBron is, he is usually surrounded by jump fps (i. e., Chris Bosh, Shane Battier in addition to Ray Allen) and particular sports players (Dwyane Wade, Philip Anderson and Norris Cole). The sole chance the Bulls must extend the series was to lessen the pace of the games with an exact half-court offense.

In a upcoming NBA draft, the Bulls need to target one or two players who can have fun with on both ends of the floor. Duke's Mason Plumlee along with Michigan's Tim Hardaway Jr .. fits the description.

Using one pick, they must address their shooting problems. Even if they can discover a way to keep Belinelli and additionally Robinson, shooting will be described as a problem.

The Bulls will must strike gold with their own second-round selection. Ideally, they must trade up in order to showcase their odds.

The following year's draft class is known weak. There's no LeBron Brandon, Kevin Durant or obviously any good Kyrie Irving-type prospect available.

Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau isn't a giant fan of playing rookies. Only just ask Jimmy Butler and additionally Marquis Teague. However, Coach Thibs should change his ways allow Dieng some minutes, since he'll contribute a lot over the defensive end of the bottom.

Emma Hicks Makes Her Mark in Both the MWFL and the WWCFL

Having competed in the Maritime Women's Football League and the Western Women's Canadian Football League, linebacker Emma Hicks has shown herself to be an exceptional football player. The opportunity to participate in both leagues makes Hicks the first to achieve the historic feat.

Currently competing with the Regina Riot of the WWCFL, Hicks also spent time with the Capital Area Lady Gladiators in the MWFL. The experience of competing in the Maritime league with the Lady Gladiators marked her first full season.

"I had a great time playing with the Lady Gladiators last year. That was my first full season of football and I really appreciated the coaching that I received, while also playing with and against some fantastic women. I had a lot of support from the coaches and players, of which I am very thankful."

Hicks added, "I truly believe they made me a better athlete; having the opportunity to train with particular athletes and learn under knowledgeable coaches, and these relationships continue to mean something off the field."

While the WWCFL enters its third season, the MWFL has existed for a decade. The subtle differences between the leagues provide Hicks with a unique perspective on the game.

"The Maritime league has some different dynamics, where it's been around for a lot longer (celebrating its 10th season this year) and the teams are closer, and it was really interesting to be a part of. As far as I know, I'm the only one who has played in both leagues."

A native of New Brunswick, Hicks first played for the Regina Riot in their inaugural season. While she has alternated between the WWCFL and the MWFL, the close-knit feeling that encompasses the culture of the Regina Riot is one that is not lost on her.

"The Regina Riot is my home team. I'm from New Brunswick, but I started my football career (if that's what it's called) here in their rookie season in 2011. I left Regina for school early in that season, only playing two league games with the team."

"I've kept in touch with them; have been considered a 'Sask girl' by both my Regina team and my New Brunswick team (despite only living here for 5 months before). Since then I've always wanted to come back and play with them again."

With the province of Saskatchewan showing a remarkable enthusiasm for football of all skill levels, ages and genders, Hicks understands the impact playing in the area has in shaping her career.

"I love the mentality, knowledge, and experience that are here, where football is so much more a part of the culture than in New Brunswick at this time. I had a few conversations with the Riot defensive coaches in preseason this year where we started to talk more seriously about me coming back. I decided to take this opportunity while I have the time, to return to my home team, learn under some great coaches, and continue to develop as a player."

"My brother lives here as well so it's great to be able to see him again, and it is also an opportunity to explore some work opportunities in another area of the country, as a strength and conditioning coach."

Among the highlights in her promising career includes being named to the Canadian National Team. The Canadian contingent will be looking to claim the gold medal at the 2013 Women's Tackle Football Championships. With the opportunity to represent her country, the experience is one of great excitement.

"It really is an honor to be named to the national team, being able to represent my country on the international stage. It's still a bit unreal to me; I had never imagined playing at this level."

While Hicks is still nascent to football, she has a natural ability to excel at the sport. As an athlete that has always been dedicated to training and success, the years of hard work are yielding pleasant yet positive results on the gridiron.

"I've been playing sports pretty much all my life, always worked hard and loved to train, but I've never been that highly skilled. I'm pretty new to football, but it seems to suit me well. I have learned a lot about the sport over these past couple years, with the help of some great coaches and teammates."

"I'm really excited to be able to take my game to the next level with this opportunity, playing alongside the best athletes in the country, learning more from the coaches that are a part of this program, and competing against the best in the world with Canada behind us."

During the 2013 WWCFL season, Hicks was part of an historic moment with the Regina Riot. With the rival Saskatoon Valkyries having never lost a game in franchise history, Hicks and her Riot teammates handed them their first ever loss. Having been part of some lopsided defeats in the early history of the Riot, defeating the Valkyries not only brought redemption, but supplied confidence.

"This first win was huge for us. It was a lot about believing in what we can accomplish and coming together as a team. I was playing with the Riot early in their first season when we lost 56-6 and 42-2 in our first games against them. I moved shortly after that and have since been following the league with a keen eye."

"I've known where Saskatoon has stood in the league these past two years, and to come back and be a part of this win against them was huge. I think it's good for the league too, anything could happen. Seeing where the Riot has come since our first season is really exciting, and I think it's just one example of how the league and women's programs continue to develop."

With a break through win against Saskatoon, the Riot are hoping that the epilogue to their season ends in championship glory. With Regina hosting the 2013 WWCFL championship, it is a strong motivational factor for the franchise. In asking what it will take to win the WWCFL championship in 2013, Hicks replied,

"It comes back to the premise behind the win against Saskatoon - a lot of hard work and we have to believe in what we can accomplish as a team. Football is a team sport; that's one of the best things about it."

"I think we're really starting to come together on both offence and defense; we have to keep making strides in this direction, staying focused and continuing to come together over the rest of the season. It's not going to be easy by any means, there is a lot of great competition out there, but we have some fantastic coaches in place who put a lot of time and effort into our team and they are getting us ready for what we'll face with the rest of the season."

Neymar Should Embrace Potential Summer Blockbuster Transfer to Barcelona

Neymar is one of the most coveted football players on the planet. While the thought process from his camp has revolved around a 2014 exit from Santos, the Brazilian superstar should strongly consider an earlier move to a top European club, such as Barcelona.

Pilar Suarez of Goal.com reported last month talks between Neymar and the La Liga champions are scheduled for July. Rumors and speculation have only continued to heat up from there as the forward's future becomes a main summer storyline.

Barcelona would be far from the only club to show interest. After all, we're talking about a 21-year-old player capable of making an instant impact in any of Europe's top leagues. He's already an elite talent with plenty of growth to come.

Yet, despite all the talk, Neymar and those around him continue to stand firm about 2014. Paulo Freitas of Sky Sports passed along comments from Neymar.

I'm happy here. I have already told you. Unless I die this game [against Corinthians on Sunday] is not my last game.

If people are saying other things, then they know more than I do. Many people say what they want without knowing anything. But this is how things are.

Our position is to stay until the end of contract, and we have not heard that Santos are in negotiations to sell Neymar.

If Santos want to then I will talk with my son to see if he really wants to go. We made some plans for Neymar to stay here until 2014. If these change we must be told beforehand.

Barcelona are waiting for Neymar but for 2014. A project is in place to see how he will fit there. We are 'dating' so to speak but there is no concrete deal.

Since the stance hasn't changed in recent years as Neymar rose to worldwide fame, the comments wouldn't qualify as a surprise. That said, it's a long summer and the phenom should take his talents to Europe if given an opportunity.

Quite simply, there's nothing left for him to prove with Santos. It would be understandable if he wanted to stay in order to maximize his value and potentially attract more clubs, but he's already one of the top possible targets heading into the summer.

Barcelona would be an ideal fit. The club could be looking to make some changes after a stunning 7-0 defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich in the Champions League. Adding a talent like Neymar to play alongside Lionel Messi would be a huge boost for their attack.

Speaking of the Champions League, that's where the top players in the world are truly tested. Going up against fellow extraordinary talents that know your strengths and weaknesses would show exactly where Neymar stands.

It would be valuable experience as he gets prepared to help lead Brazil in the country's home World Cup next summer. He doesn't have that chance with Santos.

The move to Europe is going to happen eventually, so there's really no reason to wait another year if the right opportunity presents itself in the coming months. Barcelona would be the best alternative, but Neymar's camp should keep their options open.

Neymar has gone as far as he can go at Santos. It's time for him to explore new challenges, which Barcelona or another top European club would certainly present.

Hurt NFL Stars to Worry about This Offseason.

Needless to say, late-season ACL tears to be able to young, promising quarterbacks should never be to be taken lightly, but judging how well he did jumping jacks within the Redskins' draft party, there is very much little doubt that Griffin could miss little, if any time in 2013.

However, the concern surrounding RGIII is not limited to his access for Week 1. Fairly, the real fear bordering Griffin's injury is his long-term prognosis concerning how well he will sustain as the franchise quarterback for any up-and-coming Redskins.

Despite his incredible speed and athleticism for any position, unlike Andrew Luck or Ben Roethlisberger, Griffin has a small frame that's not capable of sustaining waste after blow without his body breaking down and succumbing to the physical nature with the game.

The Shanahans used a lot of designed runs to create offense from Griffin very last season. While it was certainly are able of times, it clearly took your toll on his body as Griffin missed your start and battled injuries during the entire season.

It has been quite some time since Washington had a quarterback they may hang their hat on—after all of, the fact that he set a fresh record for jersey sales being a rookie says it all in respect of how starved the Chemical. C. area was in a franchise signal-caller.

As enticing as it could be to utilize all of Griffin's talents, restricting him to a bit more pocket passing-oriented offense can certainly help keep RGIII upright for the Redskins for the long-term.

World’s Longest-Serving Bat Boy Has been At It For fifty-five Years (And Counting).

A University of Memphis takes the definition of 'bat boy' to a ridiculous extreme. Here's Stan Bronson Jr., 84, who has been at work for the Tigers' baseball team since 1958. Yep, he's celebrating 55 years for the reason that team's bat boy, which makes him that longest-serving person in that position on the earth, ever. The Guinness E book of World Records shows so, so it has to be true.

During Bronson's primary season as bat boy at Memphis, Stan Musial and Ted Williams were playing inside major leagues. The Russians introduced Sputnik 1 that 365 days. Chess champion Bobby Fischer was 14 years old. You get the theory.

Bronson, who has a learning disability, mild palsy in addition to a speech impediment, has never been paid through the University. His medical needs are dealt with by the team trainers, he has a lifetime pass for the university cafeteria, and her late mother, Irma, left him the family house in a rely on.

"I remember his mother telling us on one occasion, that when Stan was an awfully young child, that the family physician told her that Stan's endurance would be eight and nine years, " stated [Memphis associate athletic movie director Bob] Winn. "We imagine, really, quite frankly, that athletics has kept Stan in existence and going. "

Within the interview recently on NPR, Bronson said which he came to Memphis within 1958 after being fired through the athletics department at Rhodes University or college.

"Coach Murphy tells the story that Stan talked about, 'I need a career, '" recounted longtime Memphis partner athletic director Bob Winn. "Coach Murphy stated, 'Well, son, I'm sorry but I don't have profit my budget to pay extra for anybody else. And Stan talked about, 'Don't need money. Have to have a job. '"

Inspiring account and all, but shouldn't the university have been paying him something along the way? Last year the team held a fundraiser that will help with Bronson's future medical costs (he lacks the medical insurance, and is not really on social security, since he's never worked). And additionally recently they retired their number.

NBA Trade Rumors: Latest Buzz Heading into Draft Lottery

With the NBA draft lottery forthcoming, there is plenty of buzz regarding what teams may or may not do with their first-round selections. Even though the draft order has yet to be determined, that hasn't stopped teams from inquiring about potential moves and getting prepared ahead of time.

There is usually a flurry of trades around draft time in the NBA, so it's interesting to note that teams are already posturing. Whether or not rumors come to fruition is anyone's guess as there is a lot that goes into making a trade, but it's certainly fun to speculate.

The Orlando Magic have the best odds when it comes to securing the No. 1 overall pick at 25 percent, according to SI.com, but it is far from a guarantee. The Charlotte Bobcats, Cleveland Cavaliers, Phoenix Suns and New Orleans Hornets round out the top five. All of those teams have different needs and mindsets, but it's certainly possible that any of them could trade out of the top spot if they get it.

According to Sam Amico of FOX Sports, with so much uncertainty surrounding the top of the draft this year, it wouldn't be surprising to see the No. 1 pick get traded.

While trading the pick obviously depends upon who wins the lottery, Amico's assessment makes a lot of sense. There is usually a surefire top selection, but things aren't quite so black and white this year. Most figured that Kentucky center Nerlens Noel would go first, but he could be out until Christmas due to his ACL injury. Kansas guard Ben McLemore is the other option, but he just doesn't seem like No. 1 pick material due to the amount of holes in his game.

There is usually very little drama when it comes to the top pick, so a trade or at least talk of a trade is welcomed. Every team has different opinions when it comes to a guy like Noel, so while the team that gets the top selection may not want him, there's another team that might be willing to give up a king's ransom in order to draft him. Whatever the case, this promises to be one of the most intriguing drafts in recent memory.

Things didn't go according to plan for the Portland Trail Blazers this season as they missed the playoffs and are slated to pick No. 10 if the lottery is chalk, but they are actually in a pretty advantageous position.

They already have a legitimate star in power forward LaMarcus Aldridge, and Rookie of the Year Damian Lillard figures to be a big-time point guard for many years to come. With plenty of youth and talent already on the roster, Portland has options when it comes to the draft.

According to Joe Kotoch of ProBasketballDraft.com, the Blazers are looking for center depth and may be willing to part with their lottery pick if the right deal comes along.

Portland already has a starting five fitting of a playoff team with Aldridge, Lillard, Wesley Matthews, Nicolas Batum and J.J. Hickson, but depth is definitely a problem and the main reason why the Blazers only went 33-49. Hickson had a great year as he averaged nearly 13 points and 10 rebounds per game, but he isn't a traditional center at just 6'9".

The Blazers do have 2012 first-round pick Meyers Leonard behind him, but they are taking their time when it comes to developing the talented seven-footer. Bringing in another center could a smart move for Portland, especially since it's unlikely an immediate-impact player can be found around the No. 10 pick. It is unclear which centers the Blazers might be targeting, but it is certainly worth monitoring.

Perhaps no team is more firmly entrenched in no man's land than the Utah Jazz. Utah narrowly missed the postseason and has the lowest odds of any lottery team when it comes to landing the No. 1 pick. They also own the Golden State Warriors' No. 21 selection, so they certainly have some options.

According to Bill Oram of The Salt Lake Tribune, Jazz general manager Dennis Lindsey is weighing all options, including potentially moving up in order to nab a desired player.

The Jazz already have a ton of depth in their front court with players like Al Jefferson, Paul Millsap, Enes Kanter, Derrick Favors and Marvin Williams. Utah's guard play suffered this season, though, so it could certainly use a bona-fide point guard or a shooting guard who can take over games. It's unclear if those types of players exist in this class, but the Jazz probably won't find them at No. 14 or No. 21.

If Utah can potentially get inside the top 10, then perhaps Michigan's Trey Burke or Indiana's Victor Oladipo become options. The Jazz need a player who can step in and contribute immediately at guard, and trading up is probably the best way to make that happen.

Manchester City attempt to profit from end on the era following Alex Ferguson's... -- Telegraph. co. uk.

His captain, Vincent Kompany, predicted an awfully hard title race next season and added that City were "writing their particular history".

Both senior figures in the Etihad dressing room paid tribute for the departing Ferguson but are clearly looking forward to next season's pursuit with the Premier League. "United is a superb club and Ferguson can be a big character at that club, '' said Touré. "He has built everything at United along with the balance I hope will go to the City side now.

"We will see next year because you will encounter a lot of rivalry between Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and United [as properly as City]. Tottenham is coming through plus the Premier League is going to be very, very tough. "

Kompany advised, dismissing criticism of the following season's standards having dropped. "Anyone who thinks the Premier League will backwards is making a major mistake, '' said the city centre-half.

"Next season is going to be harder than ever. The fact that the English clubs were out so early inside the Champions League has rallied everyone to show that we are more advanced than that. " He expected plenty of activity in the transfer market.

"It will be a very good summer for you [media] boys in the sense that a lot of clubs have to become better and much clubs are hoping in a better season, " additional Kompany, who leads Manchester City out in Saturday's FA Mug final against Wigan Running.

Kompany lifted the Container in 2011 but City's gatherings were overshadowed by Usa securing the Premier League. History could be duplicated itself. "I have congratulated U . s . for winning the little league, credit is due to your prospects, '' said Kompany.

"Sir Alex did great things for football and for Manchester U . s . - fair play to your potential customers but we are writing our very own history. We can make it happen on Saturday again. ''

Many experts have a frustrating season designed for City, whose defence of their hard-won title was bad, so Kompany and Touré are determined to finish the term on some sort of positive note.

"You can look back on the season and say this went wrong or this went wrong but from now on people will look back in the trophies you have received. The rest won't topic. ''

Touré concurred, just saying: "Every year is essential the club because we want this to be a major club. We let the Premier League trophy go to United, but now we want to win this one. For many people, this will be a very important trophy.

"It is very crucial for you to keep winning trophies and that is certainly why I signed an alternative contract. I want to be part of the history of this club. We have definitely won some trophies. I hope there will likely be more, like the Champions League and the Top-quality League, like the FA Glass. ''

"In life you cannot be happy all the time and Kolo is a great man, a great personality and my older brother. Kolo was an important factor for me to can be bought [to City]. He has always presented me advice and she has told me not to be able to worry, everything will get fine. ''

The Bosnian international, with scored 14 goals this season, has been the subject matter of speculation, and when asked if perhaps he could leave afre the wedding of the season, this individual said: "We will discover. Everything is open. "

The 27-year-old was guilty of an glaring miss in last weekend's draw at Swansea City but made amends which includes a well-controlled winning volley next to West Bromwich Albion upon Tuesday.

Dzeko, an rarely used substitute when City overcom Stoke City in this 2011 final, accepts he again might not start but is keen to be part of the action.

He said: "Everyone is usually hoping, everyone wants to help you play. "I don't fully understand. I don't think with that but I think that's not really important. It's important so that you can win it. It means a great deal to the club, to your fans, to us members, to everyone. "

Dzeko earned a licence plate of 'super sub' earlier this coming year after a spell of scoring goals off your bench. Six of his first seven came as a substitute.

It was not a nickname the gamer particularly liked but he is focused only on team glory rather than personal success this 7 days.

He said: "That's this job to score plans, if I come with after 60 minutes or easily start. " When inquired if he dreamt of scoring the winner, this individual said: "I think this is important just to help you win it.

Reports out of Italy claim a possible Bolton return for Nicolas Anelka

Over the course of two seasons, Nicolas Anelka made 61 appearances for Bolton Wanderers, scoring 23 goals in the process. He finished the 2006/07 season as the Trotters' top scorer with ten goals on the year. The following season, he signed a four year contract extension but just one year after that, Chelsea came calling and Bolton Wanderers sold the French striker for £15 million.

After his Chelsea stay ended in 2012, Anelka moved to Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua (where he was later joined by Didier Drogba). With financial problems and a corruption scandal, among other issues including but not limited to the team's coach, Anelka left the side and moved to Juventus on a five month contract in January, 2013.

Anelka's participation in Juventus' Serie A-winning season was minimal, to say the least. The striker was named to the matchday squad on ten occasions but only participated in three matches, appearing as a late-game substitute in each one. Over the course of his stay, Anelka would total just 48 minutes in a Juventus shirt (including a five-minute-long run out against Celtic in the Champions League).

Now, two different reports out of Italy (from Sportevai and JuveMania) claim that Nicolas Anelka could be on his way back to the Reebok Stadium. It was his stay at Bolton that revived the career of "Le Sulk" following relatively short stays at Paris St Germain, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Liverpool, Manchester City, and Fenerbahce.

Questions remain about whether Anelka is the Dougie Freedman "type" of player but his experience is unquestionable and it was the striker's time at Bolton Wanderers that really saw him flourish and re-enter the France national team picture. Wages for a player like Anelka would obviously be a concern but if the price is right, you can bet most fans would say "yes" in a heartbeat.

Freedman is not afraid of bringing in experienced players (insert Danny Butterfield quip here) and the idea of bringing back fan favorites has already been heavily discussed during the manager's relatively short tenure. On loan deadline day at the end of March, one of the most heavily-rumored moves was the potential return of El-Hadji Diouf.

Ranking the 2012-13 Premier League's Top 5 on Fanbase Satisfaction Levels

Arsenal's Season: 6/10: Despite a 16th qualification for the Champions League, this season has been a disappointment for Arsenal's fans. A decent start to the season saw their title challenge was all but over by November. The Gunners were then knocked out of the Capital One cup by Bradford, knocked of the FA Cup by Blackburn and then utterly humiliated by Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

The biggest positive of the season was then beating Munich 2-0 at the Allianz Arena, but in truth the tie was all over after the 3-0 loss in the first leg. The win did prove to be the catalyst for a good end-of-season run.

Star Player: 9/10: Santi Cazorla was head-and-shoulders above every other Arsenal player this season. The minute Spaniard was a strange omission from the PFA Team of the Year. His creativity, positional sense, and vision mark him out as an outstanding player and Arsenal may have to fight to hold onto him next term.

Flops Arsenal Can Do Without: Thomas Vermaelen had a nightmare season in 2012-13. He was joined by Gervinho, Andre Santos and Wojciech Szczesny as Arsenal's worst performing players. Vermaelen and Szczesny do have potential, but next season will surely be their last if they repeat their form from this term.

The Manager: 6/10: With Sir Alex Ferguson having retired, Arsene Wenger is now the longest serving manager in the Premier League. Since Arsenal last won a trophy in 2005, all 91 teams in the professional top-flight in England have changed their manager at least once.

That being said, Wenger has not reached the peaks he is capable of in some time. This season, once again, had its fair share of disappointments and Arsenal's fans patience is running out. Next season could be his last chance.

Who should Arsenal sign this summer? The Gunners need to sign a center-forward, look at bringing in a rival goalkeeper to get Szczesny motivated and a center-defender with pace.

Arsenal Fanbase Satisfaction Level: 6/10 Arsenal's players were wildly happy with finishing fourth ahead of their North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur. It would be fair to say that those satisfaction levels were not matched by their fans. This is a club who should be challenging for trophies and their fans have made their dissatisfaction known at every level of the club.

Would Tottenham Hotspur get rid of Scott Parker this summer? - Here Is The City - Here Is The City

With the competition for midfield places set to grow even more could the 32-year-old be sent packing by Andre Villas Boas?

What a difference a weekend makes. Not long ago Tottenham looked down and out. Aaron Lennon injured, Jermain Defoe injured, Gareth Bale injured, out of the Europa League and falling away in the race for a Champions League spot next season.

Then Samir Nasri grabbed an opening goal which must have sent chill bumps down the spine of Spurs fans; was this the moment it all capitulated.

Then, within seven second half minutes, the mood had changed rapidly. 3-1 up and cruising Spurs are well and truly back on their way.

But it did not just occur out of nowhere; it was largely due to the bold decision making of gaffer Andre Villas Boas.

Whilst taking Emmanuel Adebayor off was a given considering his atrocious display of ''football'' the decision to throw Tom Huddlestone and Lewis Holtby into the action was a far braver call.

It paid off dividends with each of them playing a role in the goals that eventually gave Spurs victory. But while Adebayor came in for criticism I think a certain Scott Parker got off lightly.

Let me preface this by making my opinion of Parker very clear. He is a top class player. I am not for one second insinuating otherwise; hell I know I would love to have him at Everton.

Against City he did his usual thing; played his usual game but he lacked the dynamism to keep up with the likes of Yaya Toure, Samir Nasri and co. His passing was off by comparison to the far more proficient Huddlestone and Holtby and he continues to do that strange turn on the ball thing he always does; not necessarily a problem I just find it irritating.

Simply put I am not sure he is Andre Villas Boas' cup of tea. With Holtby, Dembele, Sigurdsson, Sandro and Huddlestone all at his disposal already the rumour mill still churns that Joao Moutinho may be his number one target.

If his pursuit of the Porto man is finally successful I really think that Scott Parker's days at Spurs may be numbered.

Call it a hunch, call it a whim, call it moronic; but I would not be certain of Parker remaining a Spurs player next season.

I'm Mathew Nash a 23 year old graduate in Sports Studies and I have an insatiable love for sport. With a particularly keen interest for the madcap world of football I have always been known amongst friends as a beacon for bizarre sporting trivia and knowledge. My other passion is for writing and hopefully combining the two will create a superb and entertaining marriage that will create, divide and share opinion.

David Moyes to speak with Wayne Rooney over Stansted United future - This Guardian.

David Moyes will become work as Manchester United's manager the minute Everton's season ends with Sunday at Chelsea while using first priority to examine Wayne Rooney's future at the club. Following the striker's getting back together with Moyes three years ago you don't have lingering resentment towards her former manager so advantageous discussion is expected.

Although Moyes is contracted until the end of June at Everton before beginning officially at United on 1 July there's an easy recognition that once the season's final matches tend to be played, Moyes needs to hit the ground running for United, so from next Monday he will start the process involving driving the club in front, with Rooney, player exchange and sales, and your make-up of his backroom people priorities.

It is thought Moyes will attempt to persuade Rooney this future remains at Usa. In the close season he's going to have two years continuing to be on his current deal – the standard time that terms tend to be renewed. But if Rooney does decide he really wants to stay, as he earns near to £300, 000 a week, negotiations could be substantial.

Following Sunday's 2-1 win over Swansea City at Old Trafford that's his final home game responsible, Sir Alex Ferguson, this outgoing manager, claimed that Rooney had wanted a transfer but this United had rejected this particular. He then stated that if thez 27-year-old would remain with the club next season had been now a matter with regard to Moyes.

Of Rooney possibly not being in Ferguson's match-day team for Swansea, he stated: "I don't think Wayne was keen to play, simply because he has asked for a transfer. I think he wishes to think it through inside his mind and I think that a great idea. But we are not travelling to let him go. I just think he is maybe a bit frustrated about being taken off a couple of times in the last couple of weeks. "

Rooney was sued by Moyes for allegations in the autobiography before the Liverpudlian apologised to him in 2010. There are now no issues relating to the pair.

Manchester City Transfer Rumours: The 3 Big Targets - Bleacher Report

This 6'2" powerhouse has the strength of a nightclub bouncer and balance and technique of a ballerina. He is the perfect striker, and City should sign him up immediately.

Cavani began his Serie A career playing out of position as an inside right for Palermo, where his physical qualities were not used to their full effect.

Since moving to Napoli, his career has exploded, and by playing as a traditional No. 9, he has scored 102 times in just three seasons.

He has modeled his style of play, and his haircut, on his idol, Gabriel Batistuta, and he is proving to be just as lethal as the Argentine in front of goal.

His pace and strength makes him impossible to defend against, and he can score from any angle and any distance. It is impossible to say a player will definitely be a success, but Cavani is as close to a sure thing as you'll get.

He would make a perfect addition to City's squad but is also just the kind of player Chelsea, Barcelona and Real Madrid need right now. The competition to sign him has driven his price up, and it would take an astronomical fee to secure his signature.

It also must be a concern what a high staff turnover rate City have up front. At the beginning of the season, it seemed that the club had finally settled on their four strikers after a series of expensive mistakes in the transfer market.

After the sale of Mario Balotelli and the transfer rumours surrounding all their other forwards, it looks like the striking department is undergoing another process of renewal.

Bayern Munich vs FC Barcelona: A meeting for the purists - Times of India

But a Bayern Munich-FC Barcelona clash at any point of the leading European event often has people rubbing our hands in wonderful expectation - two sides of reputation with true approaching philosophies and no cloak and dagger stuff. Once the two sides last met in your competitors, in the 2008-09 quarterfinals, so blown away were Bayern by Barca's quick moving game that it moved Bayern's Mark van Bommel to exclaim that if they played such as this, it'd be near-impossible for anyone to overcome Barcelona. Maybe it had been this 2009 show that usually gives the Catalans a spring in their step at the prospect of facing a side - they arrive in Munich on the back of an unbeaten streak in Germany. Last season, they removed Bayer Leverkusen 10-2 on combination, with Lionel Messi getting the very first man to report five times in a CL sport. This time around, however, the story seems slightly different. Bayern appear more ready and comfortable in their skin when facing their ball-hogging opponents. Needless to say, it will help that the certain doubt seems to float over Barcelona's outings today, but under Jupp Heynckes Bayern are their own men. They'll discard what many teams frequently embrace against Barcelona's passing and pressing tactics only to eventually die at it - that's, of allowing them to determine play. This doesn't mean that they'll perform a Mourinho - pack the support with seven men or more and aspire to hurt them on the break. The theory here is the Germans may work in at Barcelona - in Ribery, Robben and that compact, swift Swiss Shaqiri they've their very own type of Ronaldo and Di Maria. Their development has stability, and allows Bayern to perform a whole lot. Against Barca's tiring legs and exhausted thoughts, this might work wonders. As opposed to Barcelona's mostly-fluid 4-3-3 (or the 3-4-3), Bayern play this lovely, and equally successful, 4-2-3-1 program. The existence of a defensive display (Bastian Schweinsteiger and Javi Martinez) encourages plenty of speed and traveling along the flanks in to the remaining third. Defensively, Barcelona will need to take care to not lose too many balls through the attack-minded Jordi Alba and Dani Alves across the wings. Also, with Bayern often having a lone striker (Mario Gomez in for his hanging namesake Mandzukic), does it make it easier then for Barca's unsettled main defense of Marc Bartra and Gerard Pique? At another end, it'd be fascinating how Bayern counter Barcelona's three-man, ghost-striker attack. Would the Spanish part follow the exact same strategies because they did in the 'perfect game' against Milan? With Dante appearing the weak link in defense, how Xavi and Iniesta function around Schweinsteiger and Martinez must prove the evening's highlight. Italy national team typical Martinez is up against his old friend and foe, Sergio Busquets, whose unique existence in the Barcelona's defensive gap makes him the impossible fulcrum of the side. Will the decider be proven by this unique all-Spanish matchup?

Who Do you need to Finish In Fourth Place: Arsenal or Tottenham? [POLL].

No topic whether you support System, Tottenham or any many other club, here's a poll we can all participate in… who do we should see finish in lastly place?

We're not asking who one thinks will finish in lastly. Arsenal have their destiny on their own hands, and all needed is a win to make sure fourth. Even a draw or maybe a loss could be enough according to what Spurs do alongside Sunderland.

And, of path, there's the complication that Arsenal could finally end up finishing joint third with Chelsea that is going to require a third-place playoff. But the likelihood of that happening are slim at this moment.

The difference between next and fifth is mammoth inside Premier League. Fourth spot guarantees UEFA Champions League qualification. Fifth place suggests Europa League.

CANAL REVIEW! – UST Recoil Golf iron Shafts.

Coming out of your PGA Show, I knew that UST was actually going all-in on your Recoil iron shaft. But in spite of all tech talk and marketing and advertising, I couldn't shake a doubts about better people actually switching to graphite iron shafts. Then, as winter started to break and people headed to your course, I started seeing a lot more posts about players gaming the Recoil. Is an absolute sea change underway? Are we headed towards daily when players will have 14 graphite shafts inside their bag?

:: The Recoil Prototype is designed for better players looking designed for great feel and the opportunity to work the ball. It's a lower balance along with higher flex point. It comes in heavier weights (90-125 grams) which has a firmer tip for reduced ball flight.

:: The Recoil 800 Line is for players searching for a lighter weight option (50-94 grams). It features optimum bodyweight and flex profiles to fit numerous golfers. A mid-balance, channel tip creates a medium ball flight.

:: The Recoil 600 Selection offers great feel along with lightweight options (68-84 grams) to enhance club head speed meant for greater distance. This brand favors a medium to medium high ball airfare.

Prices for the Recoil brand vary widely. The Recoil Prototype has an MSRP of $135. A Recoil 800 Series can be $92, and the Recoil nine hundred Series is $53.

The Recoil Prototype and 800 Series are merely available through UST TOURSPX agents, but the 600 Series is available through all UST dealers.

In terms of looks, UST took a safe middle road with the Recoil. From afar, not a soul would guess that these are graphite: they have a shiny silver look that is close enough to material to fool the casual observer. They do have an overabundance of branding than your normal steel shaft, but not a single thing gaudy; a nice clean white and silver graphic that could easily be hidden at address.

When you get the Recoil Prototype 125, there's nothing regarding the feel that says "graphite. " There are plenty of heft in addition to a nice even balance. In the swing, there's a very minimal sum of load and kick; it's a little but noticeable change with a Dynamic Gold. It's at impact that you just really sense the distinction. Mishits have none for the sting and shock associated for you to normally associate with missing the midst of the club face. Focused hits feel even clean than normal, almost because if there was no impact at all.

For the Performance examining, I installed the UST Recoil Prototype 125 shafts into a couple of Wilson FG Tour V2 goes. They were tested against a few Dynamic Gold S300 shafts which installed in the same heads. Testing was done for a FlightScope X2 launch keep track of. All shafts were gripped with PURE Grips.

The 2 biggest differences between the Recoil and Dynamic Precious metal, for me, were the peak level of my shots along with the spin rates. With your Recoil, my shots were peaking typically 10 feet higher than these folks with Dynamic Gold. Strangely enough, the spin rates using Recoil were higher with my long iron (compared so that you can Dynamic Gold) and lower while using short irons. This blend of higher flight with better spin rates led to the distance gains that saw.

When it pertains to accuracy, Recoil and Potent Gold were essentially alike in dispersion. The FlightScope graphic shows a sizable numerical advantage for the Dynamic Gold within the 4 irons, but, examining the shot pattern, a eye test disagrees.

All in all, I think that switching on the Recoil Prototype 125 will be a fairly easy transition for anyone playing some of the heavy weight steel shafts. Considering that there are 19 different Recoil models, there's probably one who would make for an easy transition, or, perhaps, some marked improvement, for nearly every player. If you're getting fit for new irons this season, do what an increasing variety of players are doing, and then judge if your game wouldn't be improved with UST's Recoil in terms of iron shafts.

Mike Krzyzewski Reportedly Considering Returning as Team USA Coach in 2016

Duke head basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski has made quite a mark on the USA Basketball team since he assumed the head coaching position in 2005. Despite remarks to the contrary, it now seems Krzyzewski could remain at the helm through 2016.

According to Pete Thamel of Sports Illustrated, Coach K has "reversed course" in admitting he is considering a return:

Thamel reports that Krzyzewski, 66, and chairman Jerry Colangelo have been discussing the ongoing nature of the former's relationship with USA Basketball.

Colangelo commented, "I think it's very close to being resolved. That's all I can say for sure. Give it another week and it should be resolved."

USA Basketball hasn't always been a top priority for the NBA's brightest stars. After a lull in success prior to Krzyzewski's arrival, the team has been a dominant force in international play, compiling a 62-1 record in that span. His tenure also includes Olympic gold medals in the 2008 and 2012 Games.

While nothing is finalized, the fact that Colangelo didn't find an immediate replacement is telling. According to Thamel, the chairman held off naming a new coach at the beginning of the year in hopes of convincing Krzyzewski to retain his position to lead the team in the coming years.

Coach K was the architect of USA Basketball's most recent Olympic gold medal in 2012 at the London Games—a run that included a perfect 8-0 record and a 107-100 victory over Spain in the gold medal game.

USA Basketball also won gold at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, but that may not have been possible without Krzyzewski at the helm. The year before Coach K took over (2004), the team produced a disappointing third-place finish at the Athens Olympics.

Should he agree to remain with the team, Thamel suggests Krzyzewski's final run could encompass both the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup and the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Stoke Location Player Puts Bloody Pig Head In Muslim Teammate’s Locker, Responds By Throwing Brick Because of Random Player’s Windshield.

Irish international defender Glenn Whelan likes to have fun (as that Irish are wont to do). So when teammate Kenwyne Jones told Glenn to keep him out of your end of the 12 months shenanigans, that only stoked the mischievous flames into the merry prankster. Flames that ultimately crossed the brand, because Jones is some sort of Muslim, and Islam isn't an immense fan of pigs (or humor about Islam).

Despite the "joke" to be a completely disgusting, it would possibly not have warranted an irate Kenwyne Jones running out on the team parking lot in addition to throwing a brick as a result of Whelan's car window. That just makes him are similar to a bigger asshole. Hit up Twitter to be able to bitch — don't act out such as an angry zealot. More prominently, where the hell did he get a brick from? Do they practice in a very Russian prison yard?

Will the Secondary Be the San Francisco 49ers' Achilles' Back in 2013?

Struggles in the secondary certainly cost this Niners in Super Bowl XLVII about the Baltimore Ravens. Joe Flacco threw for 287 yards together with three touchdowns. He have no turnovers and helped the Ravens convert being unfaithful of 16 third downs.

Since that game, the 49ers wasted starting free safety Dashon Goldson along with drafted his replacement, Eric Reid, along with the 18th pick in that 2013 NFL draft.

How many times did the average 49ers enthusiast pound his head with the wall because Carlos Rogers was burned by the opposing slot receiver? Or how about the times when Donte Whitner was simply step too slow about the opposing tight end?

That you had their issues at instances, but overall the S . f . secondary graded among the finest in league in 2012.

The 49ers ranked lastly in Pro Football Focus' pass coverage stat last year (subscription required). They unquestionably struggled within the playoffs, but it wasn't all in the secondary. The pass hurry was almost completely nonexistent by means of Justin Smith and Aldon Kirkland playing hurt.

The 49ers ranked 18th in Pro Football Focus' pass-rushing stat (subscription required). Aldon Kirkland had 19. 5 associated with San Francisco's 38 totes. When he was turn off, the Niners' rush was closed.

Part of the cause for the 49ers' average sack total was defensive coordinator Vic Fangio's a shortage of blitzing. San Francisco usually dropped seven players straight into coverage on third downs, that helped boost its pass-coverage mark.

Still, the secondary justifies credit for allowing just 6. 1 yards per attempt inside the regular season, which was the second-best mark within the league.

Tarell Brown has been the best-kept secret to the 49ers. He had the 13th-highest cornerback score in 2012 (subscription required), beating out more-hyped stars Brandon Browner, Person Haden and Leon Community centre.

Chris Culliver and Rogers ended up being no slouches either. Culliver sitting 29th overall, and Rogers polished off 46th (out of 113 licensed corners).

Nnamdi Asomugha was 101st in the stat. Unless he returns to 2010 form, any time he was sixth within Pro Football Focus' pass coverage stat among cornerbacks (subscription required), he'll likely have a hard time making the team.

Goldson will not be easy to replace. He ranked 10th around Pro Football Focus' distribute coverage stat among safeties inside the 2012 regular season (subscription required).

Although a lot of will remember him to get his blown coverages with Falcons and Ravens inside playoffs, he was a turnover-creating machine in their Niners tenure and warranted his Pro Bowl choice in 2012.

Whitner, in the meantime, absolutely did not ought to get his Pro Bowl choice. He ranked 68th with Pro Football Focus' distribute coverage stat (out with 88 qualified safeties), and he saved amongst his worst performance for last against the Ravens.

Then again, keep in mind this Goldson had just some interceptions in his higher education career. He was slower and less productive when compared to Reid in college, yet he became among the list of most-feared safeties in the NFL.

If he struggles within the transition, the Niners might be required to start a combination involving Whitner and Craig Dahl, which sounds like a recipe for disaster—unless the opposing quarterback lacks the time to throw, which will be Plan A next time of year with San Francisco's beefed in place pass rush.

By drafting two pass-rushers with their first four picks within the draft the 49ers sent a voice message: They need more pressure from them front four.

Tank Carradine and Corey Lemonier can get their chances rushing using 4-2-5 nickel defense up coming season, and it's critical that no less than one of them becomes your threat opposite Aldon Smith.

Even better would be the return of the 2011 release of Justin Smith. He ranked first among 3-4 defensive ends in Pro Football Focus' pass-rushing stat this season (subscription required).

Needing Carradine, Lemonier and Glenn Dorsey within the pass-rushing rotation should keep each of the rushers fresh. This may lead to more production from Ray McDonald and Ahmad Brooks, who combined for nine sacks in this 2012 regular season.

The play of this secondary often goes in conjunction with the pass rush. The 49ers added even more edge-rushing talent, which may help offset any drop-off inside play of the secondary.

In Fangio's 24 months as defensive coordinator, this 49ers have finished following in scoring defense each of those times. This defense is too talented to see a great drop in effectiveness although it lost Goldson.

Nonetheless, even a slight drop-off may cost the Niners your NFC West division identify, and with a rookie potentially starting at absolutely free safety, a drop-off can be a possibility.

Culliver has come quite some distance in his first two seasons. He has the potential to look at Rogers' starting spot and be a shutdown corner reverse of of Brown. And despite the fact that Culliver doesn't make your leap, Rogers could take for a bounce-back season. Don't forget that they ranked seventh in Pro Football Focus' cornerback status in 2011 (subscription required).

In 2011, San Francisco scored second in Pro Football Focus' pass-rushing score (subscription required). Not surprisingly, all the pressure brought about a league-high 38 takeaways.

As long the 49ers find a healthy and productive Justin Smith to go along with a more well-rounded excrete rush, their secondary you must create a few much more turnovers and bolster a pass defense that just as before ranks among the league's preferred.
