Steve Clarke talks about new offers for key duo - Birmingham Mail

West Bromwich Albion: Gareth McAuley and Shane Long in talks over new offers at The Hawthorns West Bromwich Albion are talking with equally Gareth McAuley and Shane Long about new increased offers. The pair are both approaching critical times inside their own deals. McAuley is going to be out of agreement in summer 2014, while Longas current deal runs out at the same time although there is a complex 12-month clause that is reliant on specific standards being met. David Clarke established the couple were now in shares over potential new contracts. Long has been subject of attention from Sevilla and Lazio. Speaking about the Republic of Ireland striker, Clarke said: aAs far as I know, Shaneas analysts have spoken to Richard Garlick (Albionas sporting and technical director) about possibly a fresh deal. aThat can be as much as I know. That's been discussed. Itas good to know that Shane is happy. aHe has been good all year, from the initial game against Liverpool. aHe has that hunger, tenacity and wish that drags the remainder of the team with him when he represents. aSometimes the main striker role could be a tough role. It is one some strikers donat like but he's shown this year that he relishes the process of playing up there by himself. aHe wants to ruffle a few feathers when he pops up against defenders.a McAuleyas factor has been admired by Clarke and his predecessor Roy Hodgson. One of the most fascinating aspects of his development may be the fact he will change 34 by the end of this year. He'd be almost towards his 36th birthday by enough time its course is run by it even when he was to increase his contract by just 12 weeks. Clarke has just affection for the Northern Ireland global. aTalks are constant with Gareth and his advisors,a added Clarke. Gareth McAuley aThere are continuous talks over a deal. Albion are usually a team that tend to run using shorter contracts therefore you will have more talk with agencies and participants about extending contracts.a McAuley did not go on to England to begin with a specialist basketball career until he was 24-years-old. Clarke doesn't have qualms about the person being kept on for a long period. aAnyone who has observed McAuley this year may understand that age isn't even an issue,a he continued. aHis shows this last and season season have now been high class. aHe has got his chance late in the Premier League and has been among the most consistent performers for Albion this season.a
