With managers coming and going at Stamford Bridge at an alarming rate, Roman Abramovich may struggle to find a high-profile replacement should he opt to axe under-fire Benitez.
But ex-Blues star Poyet refuses to rule out a return to London — even if it means working for a trigger-happy employer.
"I can assure you I didn't watch Chelsea against Middlesbrough. I was paying attention to preparing for our game against Huddersfield on Saturday by watching them in a competitive game at Burnley. That's my job."
And he is keen to see the Blues return to a time when the fans were united behind the manager — like when former team-mate Roberto Di Matteo was in charge.
"I'm not making banners and going to the stadium to go against the manager because I would want the manager to get the support.
"But that doesn't change my mind that I was very upset when Robbie left the club. Now Benitez is the manager and you want your fans to stay with the team. That's my idea.
