With the Dallas Mavericks struggling to string together wins late in January, a bit of facialAfolliclesAstarted popping up here and there throughout the roster, most notably on Dirk Nowitzki. When it started to be more than just a chance and rather somewhat of a trend, a reporter, Brad Townsend, chose to ask Dirk about the scratchy undesired facial hair that had suddenly appeared on half the team's faces (via The Dallas Morning News ): We said weare perhaps not planning to shave until weare back again to.500. So itas been hard. Thereas been some scratching going on. And because weare however down seven activities below.500, thatas a long way to go. Which was entirely back following their conquer the Portland Trail Blazers on February 6th, to help you imagine how things have sprouted since. Following that win over Portland, the Mavs were 21-28, looking at a long trek back once again to.500 and watching as their playoff hopes flickered, along with their hopes of seeing their chins for another month or two. Since this time, Dallas has roared right back, winning 15 of its next 24 games. Houston has become merely a single win far from.500 and a behind the final playoff place in the Western Conference. USA TODAY Sports While Dirk told the journalists that neck shaping was allowed, he seems to have backed off even from that, as his beard has begun to engulf most of the region above his shoulders and below his nose. With reckless abandon has given the very best beard to him in Dallas allowing his beard to cultivate from all sides, trimming just a bit here and there and letting his wild side sprout. Most of beards have been grown by the other players who alongside Dirk have attached the neck, straightened it there and up here and made it look good in a traditional sense. O.J. Mayo is piecing together a solid face-mane, but it's been caged as he won't let it spread without bounds. Vince Carter's beard is the same one that he's grown throughout his career. Genuinely, the sole Mavs beard that rivals Dirk's is Chris Kaman's horrible beard, but even his remains a of what Dirk has reached. Of course, Nowitzki still includes a bit of soil left to cover before he reaches James Harden's degree of beard-dom, but his beard is starting to get a number of the qualities which make Harden's so impressive. Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports At a certain stage in a beard's life it takes on an unkempt-yet-clean look that is a testament to the dedication of a gardener getting past the difficult, unpleasant and scratchy point. There's no longer any skin visible from the nose down to the Adam's apple, and it starts to go from protection growth to size growth. It thickens, expands and becomes a trait, as opposed to just a little bit of scruff scattered of a face. This is not initially that Nowitzki has let his masculine side out. A vacation was taken by dirk in to the Australian outback after being eliminated from the playoffs in 2007, where Nowitzki says he went weeks without shaving. With the Mavericks just a single win from to be able to cut off the beards (and their next game being truly a game with the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday), the pressure is on, and the question is posed: Will the beards keep past an even.500 record?
