Victoria Azarenka has defended her Australian Open tennis title after defeating China's Li Na 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. Azarenka also holds onto the no. 1 ranking in women's tennis.
During the final some of the mostly Australian crowd let Azarenka know what they felt about her taking an injury time-out when ahead 5-4 against Sloane Stephens in the semi-final as boos rang out around the stadium as she was introduced to the crowd.
Many are saying she was unsportsmanlike in what she did against Stephens, especially as she was inconsistent in explaining the reason for her time-out in the semi. After feeling the pressure of trying to close out the semi Azarenka said she was injured in order to gather herself mentally. At first she claimed she had trouble breathing, then she said it was a back problem that slowed her down.
