Derrick Rose: Why the Chicago Bulls' Star Was Smart to Sit out In 2013

Should Derrick Rose have played this season? That's the problem that has caused a great debate within the last couple of months. Roseas decision has been supported by some fellow players such as Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James until he feels as though he can do so at a top level not to play. On the other side of the money, an article was recently written by Sun-Times columnist Joe Cowley saying that Rose must have tried to play sooner or later in this period. I have to disagree with Mr. Cowleyas position, while I could see the benefit of every opinion. Often I give you a short set of reasons why I agree or disagree with an view, but in this example, I made a decision to take a more individual approach in expressing my point of view. When I was younger, I enjoyed sports recreationally on a regular basis for several hours and like most of the youngsters in my town during those times, basketball was the best. Three months after my 18th birthday, I was involved in an automobile accident that left me with a base that was broken in four different locations. While suffering this damage was not the worst thing that sometimes happens to an individual, it was my life that was changed by an event for the better section of another 18 months. Following the surgery, I'd to acclimate myself to getting around on crutches and doing perhaps the easiest of tasks was a frustration to say minimal. Though depending on these strange devices was difficult enough, the most demanding area of the process was yet to come. After 3 months of being off my legs, I had to visit physical therapy to have my foot back in shape. Words alone can't begin to explain the pain I felt from adding just minimal strain on the base after not utilizing it for a protracted time period. The good thing is that I finally got to the stage where I could walk and do some light jogging, but cutting and running on the basketball court was another story. I didn't believe that I was quite there yet, while my medical practitioner gave me the okay to resume playing sports again, but impatience got the better of me. After months of seeing my friends enjoy the activity I loved without me, I decided to try to give a try to it and venture out. This became the biggest mistake I made throughout the length of the treatment process. In attempting to reunite into action too early, I re-injured my foot and I'd to wait even longer before I was ready to play at the level I was used to prior to the damage. Nevertheless, I know firsthand just how to it feels to come back from an accident prematurely and on a fun level I was just playing sports. Based on this knowledge, I could only imagine how apprehensive Rose seems about returning from the best athletes in the planet. The moral of the story is despite what people opinion is about his condition, Rose shouldn't return until he thinks completely comfortable in doing so-----even when it means that lovers won't see him play until next year.
