Ajax manager Frank de Boer is the leading candidate to replace Roberto Mancini as Manchester City manager if the Italian does not stay at the end of the season.
Mancini is still to convince City's chief executive Ferran Soriano and sporting director Txiki Begiristain that he is the man to take the reins for their long-term future, according to the Mirror.
Ajax have had to sell their best players over the last few years, including Luis Suarez, Jan Vertonghen, Thomas Vermaelen, Gregory van der Wiel and Vurnon Anita.
Midfield ace Christian Eriksen looks set for departing in the summer as well, with the Danish international attracting plenty of interest, especially from Liverpool and Manchester United.
Ajax also finished above City in their Champions League group, with the Dutch club winning 3-1 in Amsterdam and drawing 2-2 at the Etihad.
City would look to bring in someone who could develop the players to form a consistent title-winning team, and De Boer has the potential to do this.
It is also likely that a foreign manager will be brought in, as the two Spaniards, Soriano and Begiristain, want to City to play more like the Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid.
