WADA Shifts Marijuana Testing Policy, State Commissions May be Next.

Assessment for marijuana in mixed forms of martial arts has become among the list of hottest subjects over the last few years. Fighters have tested positive with the drug numerous times, but as marijuana becomes a very socially and legally approved substance, the rules surrounding the testing processes have come under fire.

Most most recently, UFC 159 fighter Billy Healy tested positive designed for marijuana, which changed his make an impression on Jim Miller to your no-contest. He also displaced $130, 000 in bonus profit he earned for Fight for the Night and Submission of the Night a result of the UFC's new policy that no fighter can win post-fight bonuses if this individual tests positive for medications.

While some proponents for marijuana wish to see the drug not just restricted by testing figures like state athletic sales, at the very least most agree of the fact that testing policies should come to be changed.

Even UFC vice web design manager of regulatory affairs Marc Ratner offers spoken out about changes which should be made regarding the entry to marijuana in sports enjoy MMA.

"Society is adjusting, it's a different world now than to look at was on the " transaction fee ". States are legalizing marijuana and it's becoming more and more of a problem by using fighters testing positive and also the metabolites, " said Ratner when speaking anterior to the Nevada State Athletic Percentage in March. "I think it's something that ought to be discussed on a percentage level now. Right now I cannot believe that some sort of performance enhancing drug and marijuana is usually treated the same. It just doesn't make sense to the world anymore and it is something that has to be brought up. "

The world Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), which oversees drug testing for events for example the Olympics, generally sets the standard in determining drugs which should be deemed as performance enhancing, drugs of abuse or otherwise. WADA also sets the limits for the sum of a substance that can be found in an athlete before the test triggers a red-colored flag.

According to Engage in True magazine, during a good May 11 meeting, WADA's Executive Committee voted to increase the threshold for pot testing. The previous limit of 15 ng/mL was raised to a higher threshold of 150 ng/mL.

Beginning on May 11, any tests conducted by WADA that not trigger a conclusion at or above 150 ng/mL aren't going to be considered a positive examination for THC, the active ingredient tested for in bud.

WADA is seen for the gold standard for testing policies for a worldwide level, but every individual state commission sets a limits regarding substances which include marijuana. For instance, prior to a May 11 ruling, WADA flagged a test for anything earlier 15 ng/mL, whereas Nevada has previously had its limit at 50 ng/mL for greater than a decade.

The nanogram levels of which trigger a red flag derived from the initial test with the drug. A typical analysis includes two separate tests.

The first test attempts the nanogram levels that might be above a certain amount to flag a positive result. A second test is then powered by the sample, looking specifically with the levels for the metabolite Delta-9-THC, that's the major psychoactive factor in marijuana.

This new ruling by WADA to enhance the acceptable nanogram levels in the initial testing phase might mark major changes to be able to marijuana testing at condition commissions, which oversee mixed fighting styles competitions.

According to The state of nevada State Athletic Commission executive director Keith Kizer, who spoke with Bleacher State on Thursday, the WADA ruling doesn't technically affect the state commission's own testing restrictions, but it increases the likelihood that rules may subsequently change.

The Nevada commission was already planning on holding your hearing later this month to discuss the possibility of transforming the marijuana testing rules for athletic competitions. This new WADA rule only strengthens the probabilities that the commission will recommend without doubt a higher level helped when testing for medical marijuana.

"Going forward I entail we already did that once going from 15 ng so that you can 50 ng about few years ago. I know this really something the panel can look at, " Kizer expressed. "They are already investigating going from 50 to something else, but this kind of significantly reduces their homework. "

The panel that will hopefully meet within a tentatively scheduled May 31 meeting will likely then make a recommendation which is taken to the full commission for the vote. Kizer is quick to point out that while WADA do change its testing limitations, it did not vote to shed marijuana as a limited drug, so it's improbable any commissions will overstep that one boundary.

"It both strengthened your anti-marijuana stance by saying we're still travelling to have it as the identical prohibitive substance, but it also much less it by also saying we'll try to fine tune the test to produce it over 150 as opposed to 15, " Kizer stated.

Once the panel meets and appears with a recommendation, it's going to likely land on the June or July agenda for the Nevada commission to election on, and then the change would procede with going into effect.

The next step for Nevada could be the panel discussion likely to occur later this month, in addition to a new testing limit could be set by the end of summer. While all commissions will set forth their very own rules regarding testing, Nevada acts among the national leaders in the industry on the subject of policies regarding these factors, much like WADA does on the worldwide stage.

Marijuana likely defintely won't be removed from the limited drug lists, but a slightly higher limit for testing might accepted very soon.

HP Byron Nelson 2013: Contenders Who Must Finish Strong to Build on Season

There are plenty of golfers in contention for the HP Byron Nelson Championship, but some players need a bigger performance than others.

While this event is not the biggest tournament on the schedule, it provides golfers with a great opportunity to gain some momentum as they enter the heart of the season. With the U.S. Open beginning next month and the Open Championship following in July, there are plenty of places for golfers to make their mark.

However, a few players looking to do well in these majors have struggled to this point in the year. A strong showing by these guys in the final couple of rounds this weekend will make a huge difference for the rest of the year.

It appeared that Keegan Bradley was going to be a top competitor at the Masters after he finished in the top 10 of four straight tournaments heading into Augusta. Unfortunately, an 82 in the third round dropped him far out of contention.

Since then, he's completely fallen apart. Bradley missed the cut at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans and then missed the cut again at the Players Championship.

The good news is that he seems to have turned the corner this week at Irving with a 60 in his opening round. However, consistency has been a problem all year, and it will be impossible for him to win without posting four strong rounds in a row.

After winning the 2011 Masters, Charl Schwartzel appeared as though he was going to take a big step toward being one of the top players in the world. While he is consistently in contention, he is rarely on top of a leaderboard.

Since the start of 2012, the South African has only missed three cuts, but he also has only four top-10 finishes in that time.

Heading into the Byron Nelson Championship, Schwartzel had gone 13 rounds in a row without scoring in the 60s. That all changed with an impressive 63 on Thursday that featured seven birdies and no bogeys.

In the final two rounds, he must continue to play relatively mistake-free to finish strong and finish at least in the top 10.

The 43-year-old pro lost in the playoff of the Masters to Adam Scott and is looking to build off that performance to get back among the top players in the world. The problem is that he has struggled down the stretch in each of his past two PGA events.

At the Wells Fargo Championship, Cabrera shot an 80 in Round 4. At the Players' Championship, he only managed at 76 in the final round. He has to make sure this does not become a trend.

With many talented young competitors jockeying for position on the leaderboard, Cabrera could end up once again falling behind. He has to avoid a poor round on Sunday to not only stay ahead in this event, but gain more confidence for many upcoming events.

Here's something you should know: Every hour one man in the U.S. is diagnosed with testicular cancer (TC). It is highly treatable — in fact, 99 percent curable — when found and treated at its earliest stages. In the case of TC, awareness is essentially the cure.

With that in mind, we encourage people in the New York area to check out the first annual The Running of the Balls 5K, produced by NYCRUNS, on Roosevelt Island. The race will take place this Fathers Day, June 15, 2013. Participants are encouraged to donate a brand new sports ball, which will be distributed to needy children by charity partner Toys of Hope.

Houston Texans: Who Is to Blame for Not Uncovering Ed Reed's Injury?

The top story for the Houston Texans over the last 48 hours has been the history of Ed Reed's hip injury. John McClain, Texans beat writer for the Houston Chronicle, first made it known to the world-at-large:

"I wouldn't be shocked if the (Baltimore) Ravens knew he had a hip problem as he went through the season last year. . . .  You don't tear your labrum just walking around. You know there's something wrong." (CBS Houston)

Florio titled his article, "Ravens suspected Reed had hip problem, Texans apparently didn't." This is a prodigious leap in judgment. It presumes the Ravens had prior knowledge of the injury, and the Texans were unaware of it when they signed Reed to a three-year, $15 million contract. All based on what a doctor speculated using his medical experience.

"You cannot see the labrum on a regular x-ray. The bottom line is, unless a player alerts you to 'I have a hip problem,' you're probably not going to get this unless you do a very sophisticated MRI of every part of the body and really look for this."

What Do Each of the Changes on Defense Mean for ones Jaguars?

This Jacksonville Jaguars were likely the worst team with the National Football League some season ago, and like new head coach Gus Bradley efforts to right the dispatch in Jacksonville, one of his prime challenges is improving a defense that ranked 30th with the NFL in 2012.

Bradley isn't wasting any time making changes on that side of the ball. The first was setting the scheme that given a hand to get Bradley the job in the beginning.

Bradley is a proponent to a 4-3 "under" front, the location where the defensive line shifts far from the strong side with the formation. As Jene Bramel of FootballGuys noted for The New You are able to Times, the weak-side defensive tackle aligns amongst the guard and tackle, although weak-side end plays outside the tackle (often well outside).

Those two players (the using tackle and weak-side end) in many cases are afforded one-on-one matchups in such a formation, and it's their chance to penetrate that's essential to successfully pressuring the quarterback in such a formation.

Getting more pressure on opposing passers is obviously a priority for that Jaguars. No team within the NFL had fewer totes in 2012 than Jacksonville's 20. Protective end J. J. Watt of the Houston Texans had more by himself.

In basic fact, often the weak-side sheltering end (the "Leo") will rush the passer with a two-point stance, creating a formation that looks a lot at first glance being a 3-4 front.

As things stand today, it appears that the Leo with the Jaguars will be Jer Babin, whom the Jaguars professed off waivers after he premiered by the Philadelphia Eagles last year.

Babin's 2012 season was something of an nightmare, but the 32-year-old has 38 sacks over the past three seasons and has a bit of experience playing outside linebacker within a 3-4 front. That experience could are available in very handy, and if Babin will recapture his 2010-2011 form he may be the catalyst for a substantial improvement in Jacksonville's distribute rush.

It isn't just the pass rush that Bradley is hoping to improve. The Jaguars struggled just as mightily against the operate. For the season, the team allowed 141 yards among the bushes per game, the third-highest total within the NFL.

Bradley is thinking beyond the box a bit during that regard. As John Oehser with the Jaguars' website reports, the Jaguars prefer to move defensive tackle Tyson Alualu to the end spot opposite Babin.

This is the group there is; how can we position them and have perfect chance to succeed within the system? Todd Wash introduced that up. He said, "You know what? He's shown some reps playing available on the market. He did a nice job. We like a little bit of bigger guy out there to hold the edge. " He's done a fantastic job.

Alualu has yet to surpass his status as some sort of top-10 draft pick around his three-year NFL career, but the 26-year-old is usually coming off a career-high 45 tackles and 3. 5 sacks, and Alualu offers a size and physicality this Bradley prefers in his strong-side end.

The Jaguars allowed over 239 yards a casino game through the air within 2012, ranking 22nd with the NFL, and in an endeavor to bolster the secondary Jacksonville shall be rolling out a trio of new starters this season.

Two of those starters are going to be rookies. The Jaguars made Georgia International safety Jonathan Cyprien the primary pick of the following round, and selected Connecticut cornerback Dwayne Gratz within the third round.

Both players are hoped for to contribute right out, and Bradley came far from Jacksonville's rookie minicamp especially impressed with Cyprien's enjoy, according to Chris Wesseling from NFL. com.

That was one guy who really showed up in my eyes, But not only is he playing, but we're watching if they can handle the tempo of practice plus the style we're asking. He did a fantastic job leading, too. I was extremely pleased with his start.

Cyprien can have garnered the headlines around minicamp, but it's Gratz and free-agent acquisition Marcus Trufant who can have the bigger say in what amount of success the Jaguars get defensively.

The reason is often a schematic one. Bradley's scheme utilizes many Cover-0 and Cover-1 insurance coverage. That is, either specifically man coverage or male coverage with one wellbeing (likely free safety Dwight Lowery) deep.

That's likely part of exactly why Gratz appealed to your team. At 5'11", he has the size and effectiveness that Bradley prefers in a very corner. Cornerbacks in this scheme need to be able to "muscle up" on receivers, very similar to Brandon Browner and Richard Sherman did while Bradley what food was in Seattle.

Granted, all this isn't to say that the Jaguars are suddenly planning to morph from among the list of NFL's worst defenses to one of the best. Frankly, it's still a item that's relatively short on talent when compared to many other teams.

However, Bradley's is a program where, assuming everyone can their job, the sum can be greater than the segments. More importantly, it's an aggressive defense, and Jacksonville sorely must have an infusion of attitude on that side within the ball after getting encouraged around with regularity with 2012.

That isn't to say that this team can't go a long way towards respectability this season, and the pieces would look like in place for a defense that wont be the pushover it's predecessor was.
